Halloween Costume Peg

10/31/2011

On the occasion of Halloween, I just wanted to share with you guys some of my pegs for a Halloween costume. I've graduated from the witch/fairy/princess stage literally, and would only go back that era if executed in high fashion. Yep, blame it on the influence of America's Next Top Model and  too much watching of the Victoria's Secret fashion shows! Now if only I could pull these off!

Leslie from ANTM 6. I've always loved the idea of a sexy bad wolf!

Miranda Kerr as the Statue of Liberty. Well, why not?

Alessandra Ambrosio in something Tinkerbell-esque

Candice Swanepoel as a sexy maid. Oh dear, I bet the male employer would be very, very happy.

Karolina Kurkova in the 2006 Hearts On Fire Diamond Fantasy Bra. I love this cause she's like a snow angel, although thinking about wearing this trick or treating in the Philippines is.. I can't even.

Oh well, stop here.
Just warming myself up for the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show on November 29th!

Hola Halloween

Sometimes I think this is more of a food blog than a fashion blog, don't you think? Ever since I've taken to blogging about some tidbits of my personal life, I noticed I've been posting about food a lot. Well, what can I do? That's our family's way of bonding--trying out new restaurants every week.

Yesterday, after trick or treating at Insular Village, we ate dinner at Hola Espana in Damosa Gateway. Actually, we were supposed to eat in Pizzeria Michelangelo which is al fresco, but since the restaurant and pizzeria were adjacent, we chose to sit inside the restaurant.

October Highs

10/30/2011

This October was filled with tons of great moments. And because I'm in such a great and positive mood, I'd love to share the good vibes in my life.

I think I wrote about a lot of the earlier ones--blogger food tasting, cousin bonding, red velvet bonding and finally getting my red trench. I haven't gotten around to wearing it yet though. It's been so HOT in Davao! So much for being a -BER month!

By the way, I changed my blog name for like, a couple of days but then I noticed I still got  lot of hits on LVL, so I decided to keep the blog name. Darn! I really wanted to go with The Style Reactor. Haven't seen a blog named that yet, and like I said, I think it goes pretty well with my Chemical Engineering background. Ooh.

So, let's start yeah?

Looking forward to the Weekend (Weekend)

10/27/2011

Sorry for the lack of updates. Again, we haven't had internet connection for the past week. It sucks cause we just had it fixed. Good thing we have a broadband stick! Whew!

Anyway, can't believe the week went by so fast! It'll be another weekend tomorrow (Yep, I always consider Friday the start of my weekend, cause my family and I go out for dinner). Here are some pictures of what happened LAST weekend.

love this photo of my brother and dad. So emo

We had dinner in Cafe Laguna in Abreeza. They serve Filipino food. What I love about them is that they have such an extensive menu for desserts! :)

blue 3/4 sleeved top from Forever 21

Calamares is our staple appetizer

Don't you love the feel of the place? It reminds me of a lanai, where you can invite your friends over for a long chat over merienda.

pandan chicken. One of the better ones I've tasted. The chicken was tender and perfectly cooked.

Saturday, we had dinner at my aunt's pizza joint, La Bianca Pizza, over at Robinson's Gateway. My dad was craving for their malasuge fish. It really is good, so flavorful and soft! My aunt said they even have a loyal customer who stops by for that at least 3 times a week! But my sisters and brother like to go there for the milkshakes. We each order one. I know, I know. I feel a little too old to be drinking milkshakes too, but it's just so good!

To our surprise, we found my cousins and their family eating there as well!

Later on, my other aunt walked in. She had just come from grocery shopping at Robinson's and decided to stop by. Then, my mom invited my 2 other aunts to come as well. It was kind of ironic, really. May aunt who owns the place was the only sister missing (my mom has 5 sisters). :(

The moms kept chatting and my cousins and I were getting bored, so we decided to take photos. This is a collage I made for our cousin ate Carms, who just passed the CPA Board Exams. Congrats ate Carms! :-)

Feebee and Irah

Before we left, I asked my cousin to take a photo of Feebee and I. I freaked out! We look so much alike here!

Cheers to hopefully another happy weekend!

Red Velvet

10/24/2011

I play this game on Facebook, Baking Life, but last week, our internet was down for about 5 days. I was a bit pissed (talk about being addicted to the game!) cause my baked goods would burn! Anyway, I was happy that I got to experience the real thing when my friend Julienne invited me to come with her and her sister ate Arielle to bake cupcakes in Jane's house.

It was nice cause Jane did not know I was coming. SURPRISE!!! Our recipe was for red velvet cupcakes with cream cheese frosting. Yum, yum!

didn't have any cocoa, so we crushed tablea

Julienne enjoying the cupcakes.
Oh yeah, I promised my friends a picture of my brother enjoying our cupcakes.

Meanwhile, continue liking our shop's Facebook page. Watch out for the giveaway when we hit 250! :-)

2 in 1

10/18/2011

Our family went to the SM 3-day Sale last Sunday. It was one of the few times we had Sunday lunch out. Usually, we just stay home.

I was supposed to wear this black shirt with a turquoise skirt from Susto Manila, but my mom said the length was awkward and that it made me look like a mom. I was horrified when I heard that, so I immediately changed.

This is what I came up with.

In school, if I can't think of anything to wear, this is my go-to outfit.

Gray cardigan from my friends || black tee from my grandmother || jeans (again!) ||
black and white striped flats|| ever present cross necklace from my grandmother

I think it is no-fuss, stylish and very pang-college girl!

We were inside Surplus Shop, when my sister and I spotted this red coat. Oh, love!
I have always wanted one, since high school. I have always lusted over the ones at Mango, but I didn't plan on buying the coat cause I live in a tropical country, plus it costs too much! Oh, but the cloth was so plush and *sigh*

Amazingly, my mom bought this coat. Not only was it a steal, but the cloth wasn't that thick, so I could still wear the coat come Christmas (or to the mall if I wanted to), when it gets colder. I love it! It reminds me of Kate Middleton, I mean, Duchess Catherine.

Oh yeah, the title is '2 in 1' cause I was able to somehow create two looks with a set of basic pieces. Haha. Also, when we were eating lunch, the restaurant played Spice Girls' '2 Become 1'! I remember being in 1st grade and singing that song for a class presentation. It's funny cause I didn't know then that song was about sex! =))

So anyway, right now that I finally got my red coat, I am on the look out for the perfect (and cheap) navy blue blazer! And yes, I have been looking for one since high school--since Gossip Girl debuted!

What are you searching for now? The perfect heel, jean, tee? Oh yeah, and how do you rework your basics? I'd love to hear your ideas! xx

Sheer

10/17/2011

Last Friday, my family and I decided to forego our usual mall trip to have dinner at Nonki, a (gulps) Japanese restaurant at Torres St. Apparently, the Japanese reign at home has not ended yet. For the past few weeks, we’ve been having Japanese for dinner upon the insistence of my brother, who craves for kani sushi.

Anyway, this time, I did not mind so much that we ate Japanese again because the food was so good! Chubby ate 4 orders of kani sushi by himself as usual. Another plus would be that the place was also so nice and peaceful. We were seated at a private booth which reminded me of the traditional Japanese dining rooms I see on my sisters’ anime shows. It was a peaceful and welcome change from the usual noisy mall restaurants. Timmy, who was in a bad mood earlier that night, managed a smile when she saw that they had manga (comics) available for reading upon entering.

Chubby's kani
Right after dinner, we had dessert at Yoh-Froz, which was a few steps away. I actually got shocked, because my dad rarely ever allows us to get desserts after dinner. My sister Feebee and I had choco Belgian waffles.

Because the place had really good lighting, my sister Feebee took some outfit shots of me.

I wore a sheer cropped top from Oxygen, jeans and leopard flats from Shoebox. Simple, effortless but with a little spunk. I love this top I got from Oxygen. I was just obsessing with sheer clothing and itching to wear or own something sheer, when I found this top. I thought I might not be able to pull it off because I was afraid of showing a lot of flesh.

Right now, I am inspired by elegant women like Carolina Herrera, Grace Kelly and the Grace Kelly/Audrey Hepburn of our generation, Emma Watson. I saw this quote of hers on Facebook and was inspired because a lot of people look up to her, yet she does not conform to society’s standards. She is quite old fashioned and believes in being conservative! Good news for conservative girls like myself.
The quote goes like this:

Modest is Hottest, Ladies. "I find the whole concept of being ‘sexy’ embarrassing and confusing. If I do an interview with photographs people desperately want to change me - dye my hair blonder, pluck my eyebrows, give me a fringe. Then there’s the choice of clothes. I know everyone wants a picture of me in a mini-skirt. But that’s not me. I feel uncomfortable. I’d never go out in a mini-skirt. It’s nothing to do with protecting the Hermione image. I wouldn’t do that. Personally, I don’t actually think it’s even that sexy. What’s sexy about saying, ‘I’m here with my boobs out and a short skirt, have a look at everything I’ve got?’ My idea of sexy is that less is more. The less you reveal the more people can wonder. - Emma Watson

I had a really great, chill weekend. So, how was yours?

Mega launches MegaStyle.ph

10/16/2011

Mega Magazine finally launched MegaStyle.ph, its online home. As someone who regularly reads Mega, as well as subscribes to updates from fashion blogs, MegaStyle.ph jives both seamlessly. I'll share to you some things that I love about the website:

1. Wardrobe

With sites like lookbook.nu and Chictopia gaining more and more popular each day, you could say chronicling of what you wore has reached an all-time high. Who are the Mega editors to be exempt? This section serves as my guilty pleasure. It makes it more fun to imagine working at Mega when you see your "future colleagues" stylishly dressed.

2. Past Mega Covers

If you have been in the business (as well as a loyal reader of Mega as I have) as long as Mega has, you wax poetic and recall the old covers. It's great to see how much Mega has evolved to being the leading fashion magazine in the industry today. (BTW, I was once in a photo on Mega for a feature they did on an Oshkosh fashion show I joined. Oshkosh? Talk about long ago!)

3. Magazine

Well, as a college student, I try to save as much as I can. I try as much as possible to pick nice issues that I will read from cover to cover. Sometimes, the captions on the cover do not entice me as much, or they give a lesser than expected content inside. This is where the magazine feature comes in. It provides a peek into what's in on the newest issue.

By the way, you can also read Mega online. They have an e-zine up on the website!

Mega will be formally launching MegaStyle.ph on Tuesday, October 18, 2011.
Visit their website now! :)
