Oscars 2013

2/27/2013

The Oscar's were held last Sunday in the States (Monday morning here) and I was so glad cause we didn't have class but then I thought "There aren't any local channels televising the Oscars" so I got sad and updated myself through Twitter instead. When I got online, I found out that they televised it on Studio 23 but by then my butt was parked firmly onto the computer so I didn't watch. When I checked my Facebook messages the next day, I got one from my friend asking if I'd make a post about my picks for the shows. So, CaLee, here it is. :))

Again I'm quite disappointed about the turn-out fashion-wise this year. :(  Trends I spotted were that the gowns leaned towards the lighter colors like nudes, whites, champagnes. There were also colors like blue but Jennifer Aniston's red BALL GOWN felt so out of place. I didn't love her look at all. It was like her waking up one day and playing dress-up with a ball gown!

Anyway, my favorites:

Jessica Chastain in Armani Prive
Total glamour puss!! I loved her look at last year's Oscars and I loved it again too!

Awards Season Time again!
I love awards season for all the dresses and the trend spotting so let us start through my list shall we? This is my third Golden Globes picks list now by the way :)

One of the biggest trends of the night was red.

Claire Danes
Claire Danes in Versace
Claire Danes, who won a Golden Globe in Homeland, also was a winner for me in this outfit. It's simple but striking which is her style, I've noticed.

Best Dressed List: Oscars

2/27/2012

I love awards seasons!

Its a chance for me to see (and critique) gorgeous gowns, which I will raaaaarely have the chance to wear. I live vicariously through these celebs.

My ultimo best dressed is Penelope Cruz in Armani Prive.
I love the simplicity of the whole look. To me, its something royalty would wear (like Julie Andrews in Princess Diaries). She doesn't have to try hard; she's already an A-lister.

Trends for Fall/Winter 2011

NEW YORK FASHION WEEK BABYYYY!

New York Fashion Week opened 3 days ago. But before designers showcase their S/S 2012 collections, we take a peek at what other trends we have left to try out for the remainder of the year.

1. Swingin' 60's

Versace
Bottega Veneta
Alberta Feretti
Designers looked to the 60's Mod style with collections featuring Peter Pan collars, double breasted coats and shift dresses. The 60's influenced style also include psychedelic prints.

Favorites from the 2011 VMAs

8/30/2011

I wasn't able to watch the VMAs because I woke up late and then missed the replay! Eep! I was able to follow it from updates on twitter though. Besides, I usually watch awards shows like these for the fashion. Anyway, thanks to the internet, I can still appreciate the outfits. Here are some of my favorites:

1. Beyonce Knowles

beyonce-vma-2011-lanvin-260x390.jpg

Aside from spawning multiple jokes like, "Beyonce's pregnant, it must be Destiny's Child!" or "Beyonce's married, therefore she's not a single lady!", everyone seemed genuinely happy (or jealous at the kid who has Beyonce carrying him/her in her womb) at the news of Beyonce's pregnancy. She just shone in this orange Lanvin dress, which complimented her bronze skin. Add to that the glow of her pregnancy, I think she was the biggest star of the night!

2. Zoe Saldana

Zoe Saldana has been on my fasyon people to watch ever since "Avatar". Her exotic beauty and great figure make her a designer favorite because she can carry any outfit with grace and poise. I love her in this dress by Barbara Bui. Her shoes are also by Bui, and her clutch is Lanvin.

Golden Globes 2011

It's awards season time again!
Time to see who ruled the red carpet at the 2011 Golden GLobes!

My favorites were

Lea Michele in Oscar dela Renta
She always picks dresses like these, but she looks good. Claire Danes trumps all the pink-wearers in my opinion though.

Claire Danes in Calvin Klein
(by the way, her husband is GORGE. Hugh Dancy, WHY? :(( )

Sandra Bullock (not so sure about the hair though!) in Jenny Packham
Favorite Studded Dress

Dianna Agron in J. Mendel
(I'm not really loving the shoes though, but she looks like a goddess, as always!)

Zac Efron in Calvin Klein. He looks HOTTT with his new hair.
(I guess I'll forever be biased with Zac Efron)

Carrie Underwood in Badgley Mischka
(not digging the hair though)

Olivia Wilde in Marchesa
Favorite "Prom" Dress :))

Leighton Meester in Burberry
Favorite Romantic Look
I'm not really a fan of Leighton's red carpet looks. I think this one is her best yet!

Anne Hathaway in Armani Prive
Favorite I'm-Breaking-Free-from-my-Good-Girl-Image Look:)
I am in love with the way she just carried that dress! Such a far cry from her pre-Prada days! :)

My observation: A lot wore their hair down. Colors were light, leaning toward the nudes, pinks. Staples like black and silver also showed up. Long-sleeved dresses with the backs cut out were also a common occurrence--Angelina Jolie, Anne Hathaway and Emma Stone donned them. I love Emma Stone and everything, but I don't like her blonde hair, and her pink dress sort of washed her off.
There was a lot of sparkly dresses also; Taylor Swift would be proud! :) There was a lot of green as well--Angelina Jolie, Mila Kunis, Catherine Zeta Jones in Monique Lhuillier. (and I thought ORANGE was the color of the year. Glad it's not!)

I also noticed that a lot of the artistes were not in their usual all-out flamboyant selves. I loved Tilda Swinton's look too, by the way. She proved LESS is definitely MORE.

Tilda Swinton in Jil Sander

Justin Bieber's suit looked too big for him, just to comment.

And yeah, I haven't seen Black Swan yet but congratulations to Natalie Portman for winning Best Actress! :)
