Guest Post: Fall Fashion Tips

10/31/2012

Hi everyone! Happy Halloween!

I'm bringing you my first guest post, written by no other than Anya Sarre. Here's a little background on her:

Anya Sarre is one of Hollywood’s most influential trendsetters. A nationally recognized celebrity stylist, Sarre is known for her impeccable eye and ability to tie any look together with the perfect accessory. Named “Best Television Fashion Stylist” for her appearances on Entertainment Tonight, The Insider and countless other media outlets, Sarre is the go-to fashion expert for Hollywood’s biggest celebrities.

Well anyway, I got an e-mail from her asking if she could write an article for my blog, and of course I said yes! :) Anyway, I learned some useful fall styling tips from her article. I hope you do too! :)

Happy Halloween!!!

"Halloween is the one night a year when girls can dress like a total slut and no other girls can say anything about it."
--Mean Girls

Well, I'm not a slut nor do I have a slutty body. I also probably won't go trick or treating tomorrow so this is my way of celebrating Halloween--Halloween-inspired nails!

Oh by the way, Nail Bar is offering a 10% discount on manicure and pedicure services until November 4 only! Try to drop by, guys! :)

Happy Halloween!

Grown Up

10/29/2012

Hello! :)

How is everyone? It's been SOOOO long! I've been out since 9am; I came from a day trip with my friends. We went to Eden Nature Park, had lunch there and went trekking. Afterwards, we went to SM for a bit then decided to get massages. Finally, we ended up having dinner at Lachi's. Super tiring day, and my wallet's (almost) empty but it's all good. I missed this kind of outing--what with everyone studying in Manila and us having conflicting schedules. I rarely go out, and if I do, I usually go alone, with my sister or my family. I forgot how much energy my friends have!

My Life in TV Shows

10/24/2012

I've been measuring my sem break in terms of TV shows:

Monday-Revenge
Tuesday-Gossip Girl and 90210
Wednesday-ANTM
Thursday-X-Factor USA
Friday-Pretty Little Liars, X-Factor and The Vampire Diaries
(Glee also, but it's on hiatus)

Don't be surprised if these shows are the highlights of my week. Anyway, I watched Gossip Girl last night and I was really disappointed. The fashion is not as outrageous as it used to be and the story line sucks. For the fashion, I get that Blair and Serena are more grown up and have cultivated a more grown up taste (hence the need for clothes that are understated but scream expensive). I'm not really against that, but the reason I watch Gossip Girl is for the fashion. I want to see outfits so outrageous that only actresses could pull it off. To sum it up, I want to see the fantasy of my clothes. They should make the fashion better, especially now that the story line is poor. Is Gossip Girl making us easy to say goodbye? Considering this is the last season (and with only 7 more episodes), they should do the best job that they can about it (like One Tree Hill).

Anyway, end fan rant. This was the only dress that caught my eye in last night's episode. This is also where I realized the need for the lipstick to match the dress. I can imagine the horror had she worn say, an orange or red lippie. HAHA

Aside from Emily/Amanda's shocking cleavage-baring dress, this red blazer of Ashley on Revenge was also one of the fashion highlights of my week. I love the all-white ensemble made more business-like with the red blazer. The red blazer was not just any red blazer. It had a cut-out at the back which was an amazing surprise! Little details like that make an ordinary article of clothing amazing. I just don't like her character in Revenge though. She has ZERO sexual chemistry with Daniel, don't you think? =))

Anyway, just a short post to make up for my lack of posts. I'm having a bit of writer's block lately. :(
I try to write only if I could post something substantial. However, my lack of posts alarm me and has come to my attention (my friend told me she secretly reads my blog and why don't I have new posts! #pressure and #pleasure --it feels awesome that someone actually looks forward to your random ramblings). If you have any ideas of what I could write about, please don't hesitate to comment. Thank you huhu :'(

White's Hot: The Fall

10/21/2012

"Concentrate on comfort - even if that means wearing the same thing over and over, because when I feel comfortable, I feel so much more relaxed and have a much better time."

So says one of my favorite actresses and role models Emma Watson. I guess I don't have to say why I emulate her--she's beautiful, talented, rich, classy and smart--everything I want to be and am striving to be. It brings me so much comfort knowing that she is also a believer in dressing for yourself. I think I wrote an entry here on my blog once wherein I shared that time I "dressed to impress" during UP enrollment (or didn't I?) and ended up getting blisters for wearing my best (and new) shoes. I can also think of other instances wherein I wore something fasyon and ended up not enjoying the event I went to. Learning from those mistakes, I try to meet in the middle of trendy and classic-comfortable. I mean, what's the point of looking great if you can't have a good time?

Wishlist Wednesday: Designer Bags Edition

10/18/2012

Hello again!

I realized that I haven't made a Wishlist Wednesday post in so long (and I long promised I would make one of my MUST-HAVE bags). I also realize it isn't Wednesday anymore, so forgive this late post. On to the list then?

First on my list is a Chanel 2.55. It's been on my list since forever. It was named 2.55 because it was created on February 1955. It's a CLASSIC, 'nuff said.

Who Says?

10/15/2012

Who says plus sized girls can't wear colored jeans?

I remember when the trend surfaced circa 2008 and I wanted to join the bandwagon but as a firm believer in the (unwritten) Big Book of Fashion Do's and Dont's, which said that colored jeans make your thunder thighs look fatter than they are (and that colored jeans are best suited for tall people as they elongate the legs), I decided to forego the trend.

Never Enough

10/14/2012

Do you ever feel like no matter what you do, you’re never enough? Stupid question. I guess most of us feel that way.  But for first-borns like myself, I feel that the pressure to do better and be better is greater because we have to be examples to our siblings. I can also name another downside of being the eldest: you automatically are held responsible for everything. I mean, it’s okay if you failed to do what you were supposed to do. However, it’s another thing to be reprimanded for supposedly not doing something you actually did (good deeds), or getting blamed for doing something you did not do (bad deeds). The worst is probably when your sibling fails to do something and you end up having to do it.

Hola!

I just submitted my final requirement today, which was a plate for Drawing class. I took my last 2 exams yesterday--Statistics and Safety Management, so the submission of the said plate was my get-out-of-jail-free card! Huzzah!!! SEM BREAK!!

Calling All Stylish College Students!

10/11/2012

Are you a good writer?
Do you have a good eye for style?
Do you know how to photograph well?
andddd
Do you need credit for an internship?

Well, read on!

CollegeFashionista is looking for style interns, called Style Gurus, to provide content for the website. I used to write for CF but I did not get to finish my term on top of work and school. :( It's a great opportunity to be published on an established site, and it feels as if you are working in a publishing company even though you're working from your home base. It's YOUR chance to be your school's version of Scott Schuman, Tommy Ton or Garance Dore.

Style Gurus contribute one post weekly during the duration of the internship as well as participate in weekly Twitter chats with fashion industry executives. Interns also have the opportunity to work on brand campaigns and organize local fashion events.
The position runs from the week of December 31st-May 21st, and you must have a camera!
If you are interested, send your resume and a street style photograph to apply@collegefashionista.com.  Let me note that this internship is unpaid. However, you can get credit for it, just ask your department if it's okay. If you are interested, you can e-mail me so I can send you my resume as a sample. :)
Go go go apply!
I encourage ALL my readers, especially Ateneans!

OASAP Rewards

10/08/2012

OASAP.com has a new rewards program!

When I got my item last week, I also received this special card which gives me a whopping 21% discount for the first purchase! Then, for every succeeding purchase I make, I get an additional 1% off. So, on my 2nd purchase, I get 22% off, and so on. However, if I use it more than 5 times before October 31st, I get as much as a 35% discount!!!

Well, I'm not much of an online shopper so if you guys want to avail of the OASAP discount, you can  leave a comment here and we can shop using my card and my account (it's binded to my account). Just a simple thing to share to my dear readers! :)

Voyeuristic

You've heard me speak and sing (via 2 video blogs I made), here is something new that I want to try. I did this last Saturday when I was on a break from the Internet and my cellphone. I literally hibernated--stayed indoors the whole day, curled up with my laptop. I managed to finish 4 e-books this weekend! :P

Anyway, I decided to write about dreams because aside from secrets, what would you put in your journal aside from your biggest dreams? Well, these dreams of mine are those that have probably reached its expiration date (most feasible is still the study abroad one) so I have no qualms about sharing them. It's just kind of sad that I let these dreams go to make way for new ones. Although it's good to keep dreaming, I can't help but think what my life would have been like by now had I been a one-track mind kind of person and pursued these with rigor. Oh well. #overthinkingalert

Tell me what you think! haha

Thrown Together

10/04/2012

like a tourist

top: H&M
skirt: Forever 21
shoes: SM Parisian
bag: OASAP

While trying out clothes for the Forever 21 launch the night before, in exasperation for having "nothing to wear", this was one of the outfits I hastily put together. I wanted to wear it with heeled ankle boots for a very Jenny Humphrey kind of look, but I thought it was too cliche so I scrapped that idea. In the end, I didn't wear it to the show. You already know that cause you saw my outfit here (and just imagine me with the heavy eyeliner! LOL). So instead, I wore it to my Saturday class.

It was a good thing I had something pre-picked because I woke up at 9:30, and my class was at 10am (hence the title, Thrown Together)! I didn't put shampoo so my hair was really nice that morning (I was literally a bedhead). It was afternoon when these photos were taken so my hair was starting to get gross and oily. :(

Anyway, I delayed posting this because I wanted to write something substantial. While I sort out my thoughts though, let me share you this quote I got from Fr. Caluag's column on Inquirer last Sunday. I was feeling a bit down and insecure and I just chanced upon his column. It was a godsend. :)
"The humble and joyful acceptance of who one is that leads to freedom"

These photos were taken using my old digicam. It's such a disappointment and such a difference compared to the DSLR quality photos Hannah took. Man, it makes me wish I could have a personal photog with me everyday! :)
