Dresslink

Happy April 1st!

Can anyone believe how fast the year is going? The first quarter of the year is officially over!

Anyway, I've mentioned recently that I cleaned out my closet, so now I'm currently in the process of re-building my wardrobe. It's a little disheartening for someone like me who envisions herself going out of the stores with so many bags in hand cause think about it, I have to save money first and then really think of each piece I'm gonna be buying. By then, I'd end up so exhausted that I wouldn't be able to buy anything. That is..until I found dresslink.com!

Dresslink.com offers the cheapest clothes and accessories. I think they supply most online shops that's why you can buy in bulk. They also offer dropshipping, if you're looking to start a business. Aside from their clothes coming at dirt-cheap prices, I also love the fact that they carry my size! Yessir, that's right. They have US 8-12, and for some pieces, even up to US 16! This is good cause some online shops only carry smaller sizes. With my size and dirt-cheap prices, getting the items on my "wish list" doesn't sound so far off now!

My wishlist includes a Mulberry Alexa-inspired bag (been coveting one since forever!), a white off shoulder top (perfect for summer, yeah?), another off shoulder top in both black and white (this is different because it has a fringe trim at the end, perfect for the boho trend that's going on this year), a fringe kimono, a sports-inspired top (in both colors!) and lakas-makayaman sleeveless tops I can wear with pants or shorts on lazy days. (pwedeng backless, pwede din hindi)

All in all that's less than $100 for 10 pieces!

Bridal Trends 2015

1/07/2015

They say girl's wedding gown is the most important thing she will ever have to wear (and pick out!). So, gals who recently got engaged and have not yet decided what (or who!) to wear, listen up! I'm listing some bridal trends for 2015 and I hope this will get to help you out (I missed doing lists like these). If not, let's bring out that inner little girl daydreaming of our future wedding then just ooh and aah at the lovely gowns.

Trend #1: Off-the-shoulder gowns

Generous Aline Offtheshoulder Sleeveless Beading Chapel Train Satin Tulle Wedding dresses

Forget the sweetheart (neckline), sweetheart! A new neckline is here to stay. It's especially perfect for bohemian kind of weddings, but still also gives off this posh vibe. Don't they remind you of princess gowns (Cinderella, especially)? Personally, I'm obsessed with off-the-shoulder tops right now as well. It's good for showing off your collarbone and it opens your face up so that it's the first thing people notice.

Shop in Spotlight: okdress.co.uk

3/30/2014

buy here

Some companies have been e-mailing me telling me to check out their sites but on principle, I don't advertise sites that I personally don't like. One such shop is okdress.co.uk. They are an online shop that specializes in made to order dresses and gowns so unlike other online shops which have ready-made gowns, if you don't fit in a specific size (like maybe the dress fits perfectly but then it's too short on you), then this is the shop for you! My top pick are their strapless mermaid prom dresses.

Plains and Prints S/S 2014 Collection

3/13/2014

Plains & Prints recently released its much-awaited Spring Summer 2014 Collection in collaboration with one of the country’s famous designers, no less than Rhett Eala. This season’s designs take inspiration from various tropical elements and artistic moods that embody the fun loving yet smart and sophisticated look of the brand.

Stylish Saturday: Nicole Warne

10/12/2013

One blogger I am simply obsessed with at the moment is Nicole Warne of garypeppergirl.com. I used to follow her when she was still on blogger (garypeppervintage) and still had long hair then. I admit, I wasn't following her religiously then and I don't know I got a hold of her blog again (probably through Instagram where she posts the most beautiful photos!)

Stylish Saturdays: Olivia Palermo

6/08/2013

"She's always fierce, she always wins Spring Fling Queen"

When Damian was describing Regina George, I couldn't help but think that the writers had Olivia Palermo in mind. She's beautiful (she has quite a fox-like quality to her face), extremely stylish and she just gives off this impression that she has everything going on for her.

FIDA Grad Show: Inclinations

4/28/2013

Last Sunday, I had the privilege of attending FIDA's first graduation fashion show at SM Lanang Premier. My friends Kyrie Banos and Wilson Limon were among those who showcased their collection.

What to Wear with Glasses

2/21/2013

glasses

Who says girls in glasses can't be fashionable?

I wear glasses and I've been wearing them since 4th grade which is more than 10 years ago (go figure!). I would wear contacts but I'm an on the rush kind of girl, plus one of the reasons why I wear glasses is that if I don't, my cheeks would cover up my eyes when I smile. Haha! Dorothy Parker, an American writer and poet once said "Men don't make passes at girls who wear glasses". She might've been talking about me That is so untrue! Well what would she know? Nowadays, glasses are considered cool. If you doubt that, Google "girls with glasses" and you'll stumble upon Tumblr blogs dedicated to exactly that--girls with glasses.

2013 Trends

1/13/2013

A few days ago, I read an article on Manila Bulletin regarding 2012's biggest trends (mullet, peplum, arm party, collar necklaces) and to my chagrin and amusement, I actually did not sport any of these!

I guess they referred to trend here as something people (and stores) sported en masse. A few examples were those I mentioned. For example, nowadays when a blogger sports a certain look, everyone else sports the same look. The stores which sponsor them sell the same stuff, sourced from the same place which makes it hard to find clothes that are different and which makes everyone buy almost the same thing. There is also this thing called style osmosis. It is when other bloggers have nowhere to turn to for inspiration but their fellow style bloggers that to a certain extent, despite everyone's personal style, a blogger's "trademark" or distinctness fades and some of their looks actually have the same feel. Have you noticed that?

Guest Post: Fall Fashion Tips

10/31/2012

Hi everyone! Happy Halloween!

I'm bringing you my first guest post, written by no other than Anya Sarre. Here's a little background on her:

Anya Sarre is one of Hollywood’s most influential trendsetters. A nationally recognized celebrity stylist, Sarre is known for her impeccable eye and ability to tie any look together with the perfect accessory. Named “Best Television Fashion Stylist” for her appearances on Entertainment Tonight, The Insider and countless other media outlets, Sarre is the go-to fashion expert for Hollywood’s biggest celebrities.

Well anyway, I got an e-mail from her asking if she could write an article for my blog, and of course I said yes! :) Anyway, I learned some useful fall styling tips from her article. I hope you do too! :)

My Life in TV Shows

10/24/2012

I've been measuring my sem break in terms of TV shows:

Monday-Revenge
Tuesday-Gossip Girl and 90210
Wednesday-ANTM
Thursday-X-Factor USA
Friday-Pretty Little Liars, X-Factor and The Vampire Diaries
(Glee also, but it's on hiatus)

Don't be surprised if these shows are the highlights of my week. Anyway, I watched Gossip Girl last night and I was really disappointed. The fashion is not as outrageous as it used to be and the story line sucks. For the fashion, I get that Blair and Serena are more grown up and have cultivated a more grown up taste (hence the need for clothes that are understated but scream expensive). I'm not really against that, but the reason I watch Gossip Girl is for the fashion. I want to see outfits so outrageous that only actresses could pull it off. To sum it up, I want to see the fantasy of my clothes. They should make the fashion better, especially now that the story line is poor. Is Gossip Girl making us easy to say goodbye? Considering this is the last season (and with only 7 more episodes), they should do the best job that they can about it (like One Tree Hill).

Anyway, end fan rant. This was the only dress that caught my eye in last night's episode. This is also where I realized the need for the lipstick to match the dress. I can imagine the horror had she worn say, an orange or red lippie. HAHA

Aside from Emily/Amanda's shocking cleavage-baring dress, this red blazer of Ashley on Revenge was also one of the fashion highlights of my week. I love the all-white ensemble made more business-like with the red blazer. The red blazer was not just any red blazer. It had a cut-out at the back which was an amazing surprise! Little details like that make an ordinary article of clothing amazing. I just don't like her character in Revenge though. She has ZERO sexual chemistry with Daniel, don't you think? =))

Anyway, just a short post to make up for my lack of posts. I'm having a bit of writer's block lately. :(
I try to write only if I could post something substantial. However, my lack of posts alarm me and has come to my attention (my friend told me she secretly reads my blog and why don't I have new posts! #pressure and #pleasure --it feels awesome that someone actually looks forward to your random ramblings). If you have any ideas of what I could write about, please don't hesitate to comment. Thank you huhu :'(

Calling All Stylish College Students!

10/11/2012

Are you a good writer?
Do you have a good eye for style?
Do you know how to photograph well?
andddd
Do you need credit for an internship?

Well, read on!

CollegeFashionista is looking for style interns, called Style Gurus, to provide content for the website. I used to write for CF but I did not get to finish my term on top of work and school. :( It's a great opportunity to be published on an established site, and it feels as if you are working in a publishing company even though you're working from your home base. It's YOUR chance to be your school's version of Scott Schuman, Tommy Ton or Garance Dore.

Style Gurus contribute one post weekly during the duration of the internship as well as participate in weekly Twitter chats with fashion industry executives. Interns also have the opportunity to work on brand campaigns and organize local fashion events.
The position runs from the week of December 31st-May 21st, and you must have a camera!
If you are interested, send your resume and a street style photograph to apply@collegefashionista.com.  Let me note that this internship is unpaid. However, you can get credit for it, just ask your department if it's okay. If you are interested, you can e-mail me so I can send you my resume as a sample. :)
Go go go apply!
I encourage ALL my readers, especially Ateneans!

Trendspotting: Neons

7/02/2012

(photos from their blogs)

With the colder season coming in, ushering the hotter season, I guess now you could say colors followed the change in weather pattern and literally went from warm to cold (from muted to loud)! But don't keep your pastels just yet, Camille Co shows that you can wear your pastels with your neons. Patricia Prieto wears a sort of muted version of a neon top. Meanwhile, I am loving Laureen Uy's unapologetically bright ensemble. If you're going neon, better go all out! I love that the way they dressed their neons reflect their personal style. Don't you think so? :)

If the cape fits..

6/28/2012

Right now, I have this fascination with capes. I guess it's because summer's officially over, ushering in the colder season. Unfortunately, it doesn't get too cold in the Philippines so if I wore a cape (even in December), it would probably look silly. Anyway, I love capes cause they instantly give this richer, posher vibe. Here are some, worn by celebs, fictional characters and real people:

PFW Holiday 2012 Day 3: Premiere B Collection

5/27/2012

I was supposed to attend this show cause Lei was able to get me an invite but then, I wasn't able to go to Manila so "updating" you live from Davao:

Bandoix Flores

Love this collection with hints of Victorian and Gothic inspiration in classic black and white. I love that there were simple yet classic pieces to offset the more dramatic ones.

PFW Holiday 2012: SM Ladies Fashion

5/24/2012

For some weird reason, sometimes I enjoy watching brand shows versus designer shows because I think I am more in tune with trend forecasting as well as I'm more exposed to commercial styling than editorial styling.

Anyway, this show is for SM Ladies wear. SM has always been a leader in providing fashion-forward and trendy off-the-runway styles at lower price points. I love SM cause they literally have got it all for you (and they have trendy plus sized clothing so we aren't left behind). Anyway, here are some of the trends I spotted at the SM show:

Pretty Pastels

Sheer fabrics in sorbet colors, chiffon, mullet skirts give off that breezy yet girly vibe.

PFW Holiday 2012 Premiere A Collection: Dimple Lim

Day 2 of Philippine Fashion Week closed with the SONY presents Premier A collection featuring Dimple Lim, Jeffrey Rogador, Odelon Simpao, Roland Lirio and Xernan Orticio, but I am only featuring my picks from Dimple Lim here in my blog. :)

PFW Holiday 2012: The Ramp Crossings

5/23/2012

Day 1 of Philippine Fashion Week started off with the SM Food Group presents Ms. Earth at Philippine Fashion Week as well as The Ramp Crossings.

Some of the outfits I like:

SR Picks: Met Ball 2012

5/08/2012

Hello again!
Here I am, back with another edition of SR picks, this time for the Met Ball.
The Met Ball is said to be the East Coast's version of the Oscars. This is hosted by Vogue, with the Anna Wintour overseeing the guest list and what not, so you're sure everyone coming will be in their best!

I love this dress. So chic!
Where can one think of wearing a fur cape and not look stupid? Why of course to the Met Ball!
Wait, is that a lobster right there?!  The dress is just magnifique! Classic with a quirky twist.
