Trendspotting: Tartan

11/09/2013

One of the hottest trends that made a comeback this year was the grunge look. Many of us associate that look with denim polos, boots and more often than not, plaid prints. Tartan, plaid's Scottish cousin, also made appearances on this year's runway. Both are among fall/autumn 2013's hottest looks. So anyway, I was making my rounds on the blogosphere, I saw posts (that followed each other, no less!) from the international bloggers I follow, wearing tartan.

Trendspotting: Pajama Dressing

10/11/2013

I am going to "bombard" you with more fashion (and not personal style) posts as I haven't done a lot for the past few months. Mostly, my posts were of my outfits or what went on in my life, or my thoughts on things so I'll try to go the other route and share things that caught my eye. (Besides I have yet to shoot more outfits soon! Gah!)

One of these is pajama dressing.

2013 Trends

1/13/2013

A few days ago, I read an article on Manila Bulletin regarding 2012's biggest trends (mullet, peplum, arm party, collar necklaces) and to my chagrin and amusement, I actually did not sport any of these!

I guess they referred to trend here as something people (and stores) sported en masse. A few examples were those I mentioned. For example, nowadays when a blogger sports a certain look, everyone else sports the same look. The stores which sponsor them sell the same stuff, sourced from the same place which makes it hard to find clothes that are different and which makes everyone buy almost the same thing. There is also this thing called style osmosis. It is when other bloggers have nowhere to turn to for inspiration but their fellow style bloggers that to a certain extent, despite everyone's personal style, a blogger's "trademark" or distinctness fades and some of their looks actually have the same feel. Have you noticed that?

Trendspotting: Sportswear

7/07/2012

The June 2012 Preview saw the "Call Me Maybe" girls--Anne, Solenn, Liz, Belle and Georgina--all decked out in 2012 Balenciaga sportswear-inspired pieces. This trend is making waves now, probably because of the upcoming Olympics (opening a day after my birthday)! Vogue US also featured an amazing cover and editorial featuring their athletes and my favorite model Karlie Kloss.

Trendspotting: Neons

7/02/2012

(photos from their blogs)

With the colder season coming in, ushering the hotter season, I guess now you could say colors followed the change in weather pattern and literally went from warm to cold (from muted to loud)! But don't keep your pastels just yet, Camille Co shows that you can wear your pastels with your neons. Patricia Prieto wears a sort of muted version of a neon top. Meanwhile, I am loving Laureen Uy's unapologetically bright ensemble. If you're going neon, better go all out! I love that the way they dressed their neons reflect their personal style. Don't you think so? :)

Trendspotting: Peplum

Peplums are making a comeback (albeit slowly)!

Spotted on the runway in the recently concluded Philippine Fashion Week, this trend is a heaven-send for those with athletic figures. The overlapping skirt gives an illusion of curves. But curvy girls need not worry about this trend making them look fat. Verniece is a bit curvy but she rocks this dress from SOUL Lifestyle. The peplum trend also lends a little glam and sophisticated factor, just like in Camille and Patricia's looks. Just be sure to pair it with a structured top to balance it out. :)

PS. It's June!!!  (I didn't have an entry to welcome the first of June *sad face*)

Trendspotting: Sequined Shorts

3/20/2012

Photos from their blogs

Even though it's summer, I've been seeing tons of sequins all over the blogosphere. A twist to your usual sequined top would be wearing sequined shorts. Spotted on Camille Co, Patricia Prieto, Aisa Ipac and Mariel Wagas of Wicked Ying, its best to pair these shorts with basics because these pieces stand out so much already. Or you can go the other extreme way and pair them with printed pieces which complement them, like Camille and Patricia did.

If only I didn't have such monstrous thighs, I would be wearing this trend too!
How about you? :-)

Trendspotting: Ombre Hair

2/26/2012

Ombre'd hair has been making waves in the blog-o-sphere lately.
It's been spotted on:

Cheyser Pedregosa of TheWalkingRecessionista

Patricia Prieto of Paradigma

Mia Durano of The Handmade Turban

Kookie Buhain of Death by Platforms

(photos from their respective blogs)

The hair gives off a relaxed and breezy vibe that's perfect for the coming summer months.

A tip: Before having your hair ombre'd, consider your skin tone and wardrobe. I like Cheyser's hair best because it compliments her skin tone and the change is gradual. The ends have almost the same color palette as the roots. But since summer is coming, light ends also work in giving off that beach-y vibe. For colder months, keep hair darker.

What can you say about the trend? Do you plan on getting your hair ombre'd or not?
Tell me!

Trend Spotting: Sheer

11/05/2011

I noticed the sheer trend making its rounds on the blogosphere. From tops to skirts and cover-ups, no doubt we'll be seeing more of this trend.

Camille Co and Cheyser Pedregosa show us their take on the trend by wearing tops by SummerSault. Camille keeps her look polished by tucking her top into a pair of tan pants of while Cheyser keeps up with her whole effortless and relaxed vibe by pairing her top with a long necklace, skirt and boots.

Vern Enciso shows us that sheer need not be only limited to tops and skirts. She uses the sheer blazer to tone down her fringe top and tassel necklace.

Laureen Uy and Pauline Prieto love their sheer skirts! Laureen takes her skirt to fashion week, glamming it up with an animal printed top, a chunky necklace and Charlotte Olympia wedges. Pauline, also spotted at fashion week dresses down her skirt Coachella-inspired, showing us that effortlessly stylish model off-duty look we love.

Most important thing to keep in mind while wearing this trend is to wear the right undergarments.
So, how are you wearing this trend?
