Part of Me

7/21/2012

This is what I wore to school last Wednesday. Like I said last time, I'd probably be back to boring Farrah this week. When I asked my sister to take my outfit photo, she told me "What do I take a photo of? Your outfit's too simple" Despite the simplicity, I like this set. The colors jump out (even though I always carry the same bag and now, I keep wearing these shoes) and I feel like you can see the real me.

top and bag: H&M
shoes: Tomato

I met up with Princess the other day, a student from UP Min to do an interview for her class (IKR! NAKS talaga, umiinterview na ako ngayon!!). We talked about fashion. I told her my opinions on it and the like, but was stumped when she asked me, "How important is fashion to you?" I couldn't answer the question then. I think I mumbled something about it's an extension of your personality and you could be different characters.

Honestly, as much as I love fashion, I can't say that it's my whole life. I love other things, such as Chemistry, Math, Popular Culture and books too, which is why I probably couldn't answer her question properly. She also asked me "How has being fashionable helped you personally?" and I really also found that uncomfortable to answer!

Back in high school, I really found it uncomfortable when my classmates referred to me as the "fashionista". Honestly, I knew I was a simple dresser but I guess being the one who showed most interest in it led them to box me as that type. I guess I was uncomfortable at the idea because I thought being fasyon required that I dress on trend and basically be well-kept and put together like all the chic Europeans you see on Tumblr. Fast forward to a few years later, I got exposed to different kinds of people and fashion. It changed my beliefs. Yes, fashion is an extension and expression of your personality, but it's not you. My achievements and what I've accomplished in life was not because I was well-dressed. I mean, looking presentable and dressing appropriately helped, but ultimately, what mattered at those times were how I carried myself and showed what I know. So, my dear readers, contrary to what the media is showing--appearance matters, blah blah--it matters sometimes but it's not everything.

Anyway, I know this is already a long enough entry but can I just connect this to what happened to me yesterday? I was feeling blue for no reason at all, but then I had an event at Gaisano Mall at 4pm so I had to suck it up and look happy. I don't know if you could classify this as too much info but I just thought about it, bloggers really do have 2 lives, one is what we show you, one is what goes on when we aren't blogging.

I was in one of those moods where I was thinking very low about myself, but later that night in Abreeza, my reader Inah approached me and told me how much she loves my blog. I was really, really touched. Words couldn't even express how I was feeling (I was holding back tears at the counter, Inah!). I guess to put it simply, it feels great to have someone believe in you, especially when you don't believe in yourself. Will definitely keep blogging, Inah! Thank you so much. :)

Enjoy your weekend!
xx
